Our Process

We pride ourselves in our professional approach to every installation we undertake. From the initial consultation to the final handover, we ensure that every step of the process is carried out to the highest standards.

Heat Pump Consultation

The first step in moving to a greener heating future starts with an initial property assesment to check wether your home and system is suitable for a heat pump to work efficiently. We offer free property assesments and quotations at times to suit you.

Heat Pump Design

We pride ourselves in precise system design, We will carry out full room by room heat loss calculations. This allows us to determine the size of the emitters required for each room as well as telling us the required output for the heat pump.

We will perform pressure loss calculations for pipework sizing to ensure optimum flow rate, velocity and differential temperatures are achieved. Heat pump systems should be designed to have a differential temperature across the flow and return of 5 degrees c and a water velocity of 0.9 meters per second to be at there most efficient.

Heat Pump Installation

We have the required skillsets, tools and knowledge to install your heat pump to the highest of standards, with minimal disruption to you and your property. We take great pride in our pipework and only use copper pipe, we never use plastic push fit style pipes or fittings as these permiate air into the heating water and promote corrosion and microbial growth.

We have been in the plumbing and heating industry for over 25 years with combined installation experience of over 70 years.

Our installations are backed by the longest guarantees and insurances available in the idustry.

Heat Pump Servicing & Maintenance

Once your new heat pump is fully installed and working efficiently you can rest assured that we are on hand when required for any maintenance/annual servicing.

Ian and his team were absolutely brilliant in installing our heat pump - Highly recommend them! The switchover from oil to heat pump took around 5 days, swapping out our old radiators. iB heating were super efficient and minimised the disruption as much as possible. They finished the job to such a high standard, including filling in holes in the wall left from the old system. They removed everything left over from the old system, radiators, including getting rid of the oil tank and boiler. When our oil tank needed replacing, iB Heating walked us through our options. We'd already been looking at an unvented cylinder to improve water pressure in our upstairs bathroom. After discussing it with them, switching to a heat pump made the most sense for both needs. Heat pumps do get a lot of negative press (as with any new technology) however we are very happy with the switch. The house is a great ambient temperature, and the water pressure upstairs is now incredible! Also, the bonus of freeing up space in 2 cupboards and our garden.

Ian and his terrific crew have just spent five days with us, during which time they removed our old perished oil tank, drained and capped its supply pipe to an old oil boiler, then removed that and every radiator in the house prior to installing a state of the art new heat pump and new rads. It works wonderfully, and the installation process was as painless as possible. There were up to four of them, all super professional, respectful of us and our property, and very good company. I cannot imagine how the whole process could have run more smoothly, and we are super-happy.

I would not hesitate in recommending Ian, Tony, and the team, (including office staff). iB Heating are friendly, professional experts, who helped us with our underfloor heating, and installed an air source heat pump system to replace our old gas boiler. Nothing is too much trouble, they really care, and they explain everything, so that we have complete confidence. We are delighted with the air source heat pump. It’s efficient, cost effective, and quiet. Thank you for your reliable service. I would award 10⭐️ if I could.

Frequently Asked Questions for Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are generally just as suitable for old buildings as they are for new buildings. By installing a heat pump, older buildings can usually be heated in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. However, when installing them, it should be taken into account that these heating systems usually require a higher output than heating systems in new buildings.

Sometimes it is also necessary to replace radiators in order to increase the heat-emitting surface area in order to heat your home sufficiently as lower flow temperatures are used with heat pumps typically 35 to 50 degrees c. In general, heat pumps are a good choice for any home as they are an efficient and environmentally friendly way of providing your heating and hot water needs. However, suitability depends on various factors, such as the type of home, insulation levels, user expectation and the desired heating output.

Call us today for a free property assesment and quotation.

The time it takes to install a heat pump depends on several factors, including the type and size of the heat pump, the complexity of the installation, and the existing heating system. A typical heat pump installation usually takes around 3 to 4 days.

It is important to note that the installation of a heat pump should be carried out by a professional and experienced installer who has the necessary skills and knowledge. Correct design and installation is critical to ensure that the heat pump works effectively and efficiently and to avoid potential problems and expensive repairs in the future. We are seasoned professionals and experts in our field, get in touch with iB Heat Pumps today.

The recommended maintenance frequency for a heat pump is usually once annually. Regular maintenance ensures the optimal functionality and efficiency of the system and extends its service life.

Regular maintenance of a heat pump offers several benefits. These include improved energy efficiency, optimal heating performance, lower operating costs, reduced repair risks and an extended service life of the system.

Yes, a heat pump can be very effectively coupled with a photovoltaic system to increase the self-consumption of the solar power generated and thus reduce external power purchases. With an additional solar power storage unit, the heat pump can be operated around the clock with inexpensive self-generated power from the PV system. We work with carefully selected solar photovoltaic installers for your peace of mind.

A heat pump uses ambient energy from the air, water or ground to heat or cool your home. It basically works like a refrigerator in reverse.

A heat pump consists of a closed circuit filled with a coolant. In the evaporator, the coolant is heated by the ambient energy and evaporates. The resulting vapor is compressed in the compressor, which further increases the temperature. The hot gas is then passed through the condenser, where it releases heat to the heating system and condenses back into a liquid state.

The cool refrigerant is returned to the evaporator where the cycle begins again. This cycle continuously absorbs heat from the environment and releases it into your heating system to heat your home.

Another advantage of a heat pump is that it is able to use heat from the environment even at very low temperatures. Modern heat pumps can work effectively even at temperatures well below freezing, making them a very good alternative to traditional gas or oil boilers in the uk.
